Do I need to buy a Router if I have a wireless card in my laptop and cable internet in my home?

Ok folks lol I got one more for today… If my laptop has a wireless card do i have to still get a router for my home or will the card pick up my cable signal hooked up to my desktop?? I never dealt with laptops til now and I just want to get all my ?’s out of the way and answered b4 I recieve it.. Thanks again Everyone!!!

You will still need a wireless router in order for your laptop to access the internet using the wireless card.

It is possible that your existing cable modem has wireless capability built into it, but I haven’t seen too many of those yet with cable.

If you get a router, the cable will come out of the wall into the cable modem you have now. Then, the cable modem will plug into the router in the “WAN” or “Internet” port.

You desktop will plug into one of the other open ports and your laptop will have to be configured to use the wireless. That’s really easy, if you’re running Windows. If you’re not, I can’t help you configuring
